Mazel Tov is a lovely ruin bar and hip restaurant in the old Jewish District in Budapest offering a warm, buzzing atmosphere, and often praised excellent meals. No wonder sometimes queues build up slowing down the service, so if you are in a hurry, pick a less popular ruin bar / restaurant. As the name suggests, it is a Jewish ruin bar, that said, the food is not kosher.

You can try the Israeli Fusion dishes or street food meals when you are nearby. Classics of the Middle Eastern cuisine are served with a lot of vegetables and finger food, hummus, falafel and pita, salads, skewers etc. Mazel Tov is undoubtedly ideal for an afternoon chill,  when it is most relaxed, and you can make a break in your Budapest city tours sipping away some freshly made lemonades, and enjoy the tasty, healthy bites. The interior is modern and green, like a courtyard with various lights and friendly ambiance, inspired by Middle Eastern vibes. The sophisticated restaurant bar is ideal to spend the afternoon with friends or family, have brunch or some drinks even in the evening.

Mazel Tov – what is in the name?

Mazel Tov is a Jewish phrase used to express congratulations, so this restaurant is popular among the local Jewish community. Mazel Tov awaits guests from brunch time to late night hours with delicious meals and refreshing drinks, colourful programs and regular jazz concerts.

A special feature of the ruin bar is that Mazel Tov has created their own recipe book, so if you like what you see and try, and are into cooking, you can take home the know how for yourself or as a gift.  Mazel Tov reviews are quite solid, a strong 4 out of 5, most negative reviews criticising the place for its slow service (the price of popularity).

      Thank you for your comment.
The VAT is 27% in Hungary (called ‘Áfa’), some places might have their own service charge policy.
As for tips, the usual tip in a restaurant/ taxi/café is somewhere around 20% of the final bill.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
