Cool Outdoor Adventures in Budapest

Normafa hill is on the outskirts of Budapest among green hills, host to the popular Kalandpalya Obstacle Course Park with various levels and rope constructions among the trees. Great for letting your adventurous spirit roam while tackling obstacles. In winter sleighing and skiing is an option too.
Caves and Labyrinths under the Buda Hills
Buda Castle hides a complex cave system under its bulging belly. You can take a leisurely Cave Tour in the Buda Castle (40 or 90 min underground walk), or visit the nuclear shelter in a guided tour, called Hospital in the Rock (also in the caves).
If you’d prefer something sportier involving climbing, ropes, etc. Budapest is still a super cool place: without leaving the city,  you can venture into the depths of karst caves, like the Palvolgyi Cave, which is a fascinating dripstone cave, and also the longest one in Budapest (more than 20kms). Budapest offers 3 hour Guided Cave Tours, which run almost every day for the brave ones!
A part of the huge cave system continues below the Buda Castle Hill too, where an exciting Labyrinth awaits the visitors with its interesting history and exhibitions.

Cool Art in Budapest

Light – The Light Art Exhibition in Budapest is easily one of the top choices. It’s a mesmerising interactive experience where digital art meets light and sound effects surrounding you. For us, it was immersive and unforgettable. Venture into the darkness of the exhibition hall with an open mind. It will offer a special trip to the realms of light and darkness, shades and shadows. Playful at times, mysterious at other points or studious, observant (recalling bits and pieces of the sci-fi film Metropolis, Twin Peaks, a Documentary on Prisms, a private 3D Disco Snowglobe and more). It’s most importantly about you, so let yourself experience and get into the meditative displays. The exhibitions keep changing. Maybe it is your call. Maybe it is not. Worth a try, although some say it’s on the pricier side.

Retro – the pre capitalist years had an amazing range of consumer items. Take a time travel back to the retro items of the communist era in Budapest in the Budapest Retro Museum.

Get illuminated in the Future Park in Budapest! Originally planned for kids, but hey, who hasn’t got a kid inside? Colourful projections, science play house with lights, mystery and some psychedelic rendering of nature. Draw your animals and see them floating, walk on digital projections.

Segway Tours in Budapest

Segways are still allowed to roll in some of the coolest sites in Budapest. Check some of the best Budapest Segway tours for an unforgettable sightseeing
Room Escape Games – a wide array of games available for adrenaline seekers, parties, couples, and families, to get out of a locked room through solving riddles, finding clues to escape / save the world. Be part of a story, challenge your heads, and enjoy your heroic self in these fun games. Superb option on a rainy day/ night.
Invisible Exhibition – a place to try to go through an exhibition in complete darkness: you can experience what it feels like to be lacking eyesight while navigating through various rooms, guided by blind and visually impaired people. Millenaris Park in Budapest is the permanent home of this peculiar exhibition, which will broaden your horizons through ‘invisibility.’ If you have blind friends / relatives / acquaintances, you will be able to connect with them on new levels.

Cool and Cheesy

Budapest Cocktail Cruise
Budapest Cocktail Cruise
Cruise on the river Danube in Budapest city to mix a bit of cheesiness with coolness, for your romantic self. Themed cruises, like Cocktail Cruise, Craft Beer Cruise, or Wine Cruise will be a great excuse for those who wish to secretly enjoy the attractions while sipping away chilled drinks.

Cool & Horrible

Horrible Histories has never gotten better in Budapest than in the nuclear shelter and WW2 underground hospital in the Rock Hospital under the Castle Hill. In addition, there’s the House of Terror museum in Budapest, the former site of interrogations in totalitarianism behind the Iron Curtain for more horrible insights into the dark side of humanity. And you thought that we are living in strange, dystopian times? Guess you are right.

Cool Vehicles

Funicular Buda Castle Budapest

Trams & Nostalgia Trams in Budapest,
Cogwheel up to Normafa,
SUP on the river Danube
A Bus dashing into the river Danube.
At any rate, there are some amazing vehicles to try in Budapest. We would mention the Segway again, it just feels under your feet so right. But vehicle nerds will like the Railway Museum too, or the tiny Underground Museum.

Cool with Animals

The Cat lovers place is the Cat Cafe (called, confusingly, the Budapest Cat Museum, but it’s not really a museum, more like a cat petting paradise. Small and cozy with lovely cats to pass you on that calmness and warmth that will charge you up like a nice hot cuppa).
